Summary

 

As an Inpatient Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner, you will provide compassionate, specialized care to patients admitted to the hospital who are living with advanced or life-limiting illnesses. This role focuses on meaningful conversations about goals of care, expert symptom management, and ensuring patients and their families feel supported, informed, and respected throughout their journey.

 

You will be an integral part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary care team, working alongside physicians, nurses, social workers, and chaplains to deliver whole-person care. This is a unique opportunity to practice at the intersection of medicine, empathy, and advocacy—helping patients find dignity, comfort, and peace in some of life’s most challenging moments.

 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver compassionate, expert care by completing patient histories, physical exams, and care plans tailored to each patient’s needs.

  • Facilitate meaningful conversations with patients and families to establish goals of care and ensure choices are clearly documented and honored.

  • Guide advance care planning, including completion of advance directives and POLST forms.

  • Provide symptom relief for pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, anxiety, nausea, and other distressing symptoms using pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches.

  • Collaborate daily with the hospital’s interdisciplinary team to ensure seamless, patient-centered care.

  • Educate patients, families, and hospital staff on palliative care principles, treatment options, and next steps in care.

  • Exercise autonomy in decision-making, serving as a trusted resource for patients, families, and colleagues.

  • Maintain accurate documentation in medical records while ensuring compassionate communication at every touchpoint.

Qualifications

Licensure & Certification

  • Must hold current RN and NP licensure in the state of practice.

  • Must hold a current national Board Certification in a nursing specialty.

  • ACHPN certification preferred but not required

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing from accredited institutions required.

  • Minimum of 3 years of palliative or hospice nursing experience required.

  • Prior experience as a Nurse Practitioner is preferred but not required; strong critical thinking skills are essential.

  • Demonstrated expertise in caring for older adults, chronically ill, and seriously ill populations.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Traits of punctuality, organization, and collaboration to thrive in a team environment.

 

This role requires travel to and from one or more assigned facilities. Depending on the amount of travel required, Curana may in future determine that a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and an acceptable driving record are required. If so, you will be provided with thirty (30) days notice of this requirement. From that time forward, please be advised that Periodic motor vehicle (MVR) checks may be conducted as a condition of, and/or for, continued employment.
